Welcome to our English page! 

In English, we will be learning lots of skills in Year 1. 

The National Curriculum splits English into three main categories:

• Spoken Language 
• Reading 
• Writing 

We have lots of opportunities scheduled into our week to support our English learning in Year 1:

• Read Write Inc Session (1 hour daily) 
• Read Write Inc VCR Time (10 minutes daily- children watch a speed sound lesson using our online portal which teaches to their identified sound gaps)
•  Favourite Five Story Time (15 minutes daily- children choose 5 texts every half term they enjoy and we read these over the half term to ensure children have a range of books they know well and develop a love for reading)
•  Basic Skills (15 minutes daily- this alternates between English and Maths and includes skills such as reading and writing days of the week, months of the year, letter formation, basic punctuation etc).
